I've been told why. The Saudis aren't Americans (or, in relevant cases I'm sure, Britons), so their influence is quite proper.

They do, to some extent, but only admiringly. Why? The aura of mystique given off by these men with extremely deep pockets trotting around in 7th century garb with an air of being God's gift to the world by dint of geological forces. Jews, on the other hand, are seen as grubby, grasping escapees from the ghettoes of Europe.
