You are right. Odd kind of anarchists to worry about the post office. They must be alien clones replacing human anarchists. Shudder.

For the genuine anarchist's position on the post office, look no further than Cosmo Kramer, TV's poster-boy for the anarchist dream:

Postal Employee: "May I help you?" Kramer: "Yeah, I'd like to cancel my mail."
Postal Employee: "Certainly. How long would you like us to hold it?"
Kramer: "Oh, no, no. I don't think you get me. I want out, permanently."
Newman: "I'll handle this, Violet. Why don't you take your three hour break? Oh, calm down, everyone. No one's canceling any mail."
Kramer: "Oh, yes, I am."
Newman: "What about your bills?"
Kramer: "The bank can pay 'em."
Newman: "The bank. What about your cards and letters?"
Kramer: "E-mail, telephones, fax machines. Fedex, telex, telegrams, holograms."
Newman: "All right, it's true! Of course nobody needs mail. What do you think, you're so clever for figuring that out? But you don't know the half of what goes on here. So just walk away, Kramer. I beg of you."

(From Seinfeld, Episode 161: "The Junk Mail", mandatory for anarchists and those who want to be)

Do they describe themselves as anarchists, though, or is that just Andrew Brown's label? From a quick glance at their site it looks like common or garden Marxism. Sorry to spoil the joke...

Not my label, but if we're going to be picky they're anarcho-syndicalists.

Thanks, Noga, for the Seinfeld snippet.

Re g: I can absolutely affirm that the Solidarity Federation are anarcho-syndicalists. Dump your preconceptions!

But bob - are you saying that like it's a good or a bad thing?

Good question Nick.

Since I was a teenager and discovered a book by Kenneth Patchen in my local library, while listening to bands like Crass, Conflict and the Dead Kennedys, I have had a kind of anarchist streak.

But I've also always had a decidedly non-revolutionary streak, symbolised by the fact that I actually joined the Labour Party during the time I was listening to Crass and Conflict.

So anarchists defending the post office kind of nicely combines both the schizoid poles of my politics.
