53 Reasons to Hate Vampire Weekend

I put this link in a comment on my post about Estelle and the politics of authenticity in soul music, but it deserves a post of its own. Heart on a Stick is running a series with the above title, of which there have so far been two excellent parts: Uyimbube, about "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", a song I first encountered via Pete Seeger, who was big with my Stalinist/folkie grandparents, and Gbute Vange, about the great Angelique Kidjo and Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars. Great stuff. (Particularly recommended to Daniel, whose blog often looks at these sorts of things.)

P.s. more Pete Seeger here.
